What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is a private, one-on-one therapeutic relationship between you and a registered psychotherapist. It's a space to slow down, look honestly at what's happening in your life, and do the work of understanding and shifting the patterns that are keeping you stuck — without judgment, and without performance.
At Believe Therapy & Coaching, our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches and bring genuine warmth, clinical depth, and a commitment to getting it right. We don't use a one-size-fits-all protocol. We build a treatment plan around you.
Who We Work With
We specialize in working with high-functioning adults — people who appear to be managing well on the outside but are quietly struggling underneath. This includes:
- Professionals, entrepreneurs, and high achievers navigating burnout, perfectionism, and anxiety
- Adults processing trauma, grief, or significant life transitions
- People who feel chronically overwhelmed, disconnected, or like they've lost themselves
- Adults with ADHD, neurodivergent traits, or complex presentations
- Individuals navigating relationship challenges, attachment wounds, or patterns that keep repeating
- Adults with a complicated relationship with food, body, or identity
- People who are self-aware enough to know something isn't right — but aren't sure what
What We Work On Together
Therapy looks different depending on who you are and what you're bringing. Sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly or bi-weekly. Common areas we explore include:
- Anxiety, chronic worry, and nervous system dysregulation
- Burnout, emotional exhaustion, and loss of meaning
- Depression, low motivation, and disconnection
- Trauma responses and their impact on daily life
- Self-worth, inner critic, and perfectionism
- Relationship patterns and attachment wounds
- Life transitions — career changes, parenthood, divorce, identity shifts
- Grief and loss
Our Therapeutic Approach
We draw from a range of evidence-based modalities — not as a rigid protocol, but as a toolkit that informs how we show up with each person. Our therapists integrate approaches including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and its third-wave adaptations
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) principles
- Somatic and nervous-system-informed approaches
- Psychodynamic and attachment-informed perspectives
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills
What to Expect
Your first session is a chance to get oriented — we'll ask about what brings you in, your history, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. You won't be rushed. You don't need to have it figured out. We build from wherever you are.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions and adjust the frequency as things shift. We're collaborative throughout — regularly checking in on what's working, what isn't, and where you want to go.
Fees, Insurance & Direct Billing
Registered psychotherapy services are covered under most extended health benefit plans. We provide receipts for reimbursement and offer direct billing with select insurers including Medavie Blue Cross. A free 20-minute phone consultation is available to help you decide if we're the right fit before booking your first appointment.
